Trina Solar has been building a reputation as a leading global PV and smart energy solution provider for over two decades. Over that time, we have seen solar technology develop quickly, enabling large scale projects to become more efficient and financially viable.

The release of higher power modules such as Vertex 670 and more reliable, efficient tracker solutions, such as TrinaTracker Agile 1P dual row, in 2021 is physical proof of our commitment to solar innovation. Plus are examples of our vision to see wider adoption of utility-scale solar solutions to help businesses and nations meet ambitious environmental targets.

Individually our products already deliver significant advantages for solar investors, operators, developers, and EPC companies in terms of higher reliability, more yield gain and lower CAPEX and OPEX. But ultra-high power modules plus our advancements in tracker reliability and efficiency represent a game changer where the benefits complement each other to deliver significant reductions in both LCOE and BOS.

Integrating innovations to increase performance

By introducing a dual-row tracker mechanism into the existing TrinaTracker portfolio, Trina Solar provides more accurate adaptions of the trackers to the sites. TrinaTracker Agile 1P and Vanguard 2P products combine hardware, software, and design improvements to increase ROI even while the trackers operate under extreme weather conditions and in challenging terrain. The Vertex range of panels pioneers new standards in ultra-high power delivery for large scale solar power projects. Combined, these factors mean there are even more opportunities to optimise land use or revisit scheme ideas where previously there had been limitations for installation versus the expected power yield.

On track for success

Following the innovative guidelines established by the Trina Solar R&D department, each tracker component is designed and tailor-made for each site characteristics to consistently drive performance and operational efficiency. TrinaTracker solutions include the use of a multi-drive system and exclusively worldwide patented spherical bearing to deliver higher reliability, stability, and enhanced adaptability even when operating under severe weather conditions. This was recently evident in a stringent round of Wind Tunnels Tests conducted on both Agile 1P and Vanguard 2P by the leading wind engineering experts CPP and RWDI.

The tracker's software component includes intelligent self-learning SuperTrack algorithm that allows accurate angles and rotation for each tracker – even in complex, challenging terrains – that increases yield gain by up to 8%. Drop out costs are also further reduced due to the system's integrated alarm, which allows a fast reaction to adverse events, such as low battery, extreme wind, snow and hailstorms. The upcoming TrinaTracker SCADA system with its remote monitoring, early warning, intelligent diagnosis and troubleshooting features will enable the system to identify tracker issues in real-time and perform troubleshooting in the field, limiting operation and maintenance activity and costs, and consequently lowering LCoE.

A powerful partnership

In parallel with the launch of our tracker, our new Vertex panels have been introduced to the European market. Intense performance and quality testing rounds have already confirmed that these modules represent new standards in high power utility-scale solar projects. With 21.6% maximum efficiency and 45% higher power generation compared to conventional power modules currently available, they are our most efficient modules to date. Enhanced junction box and cell circuit design also increase reliability. Most importantly, these modules are available in a bifacial version that not only delivers the best energy yields but is also fully compatible with our new Tracker technology.

Doubling up on power delivery

When operated together, TrinaTracker products and Vertex panels deliver lower LCOE from power output potential and increased yield due to better performance and resilience in complex terrains and severe weather. At the same time, the need for fewer parts and lower labour costs combined with increased compatibility helps achieve impressive BOS savings. Combining both innovations, a faster, more reliable return on investment can be achieved, helping solar power developers make a case for investment in utility-scale solar power projects.
