Trina Solar Europe reaches 1GW of module shipments in 2017
2018.01.18

Zurich, 18 January 2018 - Trina Solar Limited ("Trina Solar" or the "company"), a global leader in photovoltaic ("PV") modules, solutions, and services, announces today that its European entity has reached 1GW of module shipments in 2017, making a significant milestone for the Company, thanks to its European customers.

Trina Solar’s top product quality goes hand in hand with its efforts to be close to its partners in every market. During the year, Trina Solar Europe has expanded its sales network, its geographic coverage and enhanced its service level. As a result, the Company has been enabled to capture numerous opportunities and intensify its partnerships with existing customers; be it in project business or distribution, where the Company has been successfully enlarging its customer base.

Again in 2017, the Company’s reliability and financial stability has been honored by just another top-notch Bloomberg rating for bankability. Its solid financial management is also backed up by Trina Solar’s permanent endeavor in the fields of product quality, top performance and innovation. During 2017, Trina Solar rolled out different technologies to further drive down Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE). With the 1,500V system voltage technology, more modules can be connected in the same string, reducing BOS costs. Another highlight, presented at Intersolar Europe 2017, is the DUOMAX Twin bifacial module. Made with highly efficient bifacial PERC cells and the dual-glass DUOMAX design, this PV module generates power from both the front and back of the cells.

Mr. Gonzalo de la Viňa, Managing Director of Trina Solar MBU Europe, said, "As a regional team we are extremely pleased to have reached the 1GW milestone in 2017, alongside our significantly increased global market presence. Trina Solar has proved its position in the solar industry as a leading module manufacturer, and at the same time a world-class downstream player”.

"We are very pleased to say that the modules we shipped in 2017 have been installed in various projects in our vastly different markets, which could reduce an estimated 700,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Looking ahead, we will continue to contribute, with innovative products, to the reduction of adverse climate change worldwide. To achieve this and the very ambitious goals we have set for 2018, we will further strengthen our revitalized market presence in Europe and continue to build stable and lasting partnerships in our core markets.”

2017 has been a special year for Trina Solar. 20 years have passed since its foundation in 1997, when solar PV was still a niche industry and Trina Solar emerged as a pioneer. Globally by the end of 2016, Trina Solar had shipped more than 23GW and achieved 10 percent global market share.
